MLG Trunnion Bearing Lubrication Tool $100
Take a look at the very top of your main landing gear struts. Notice how they are connected to 3/4-inch diameter pins which are inserted into the wing. Well, those pins go into needle bearings. Those are the trunnion bearings and they are very important. They allow the main struts to retract and extend, and they hold up the entire weight of the plane. And in every 310 I work on, those bearings are either frozen or very stiff. The grease inside those bearings dried out long ago and the bearings are running dry. Or not turning at all. This is not a good thing. Up until now, there was no way to grease those bearings. Some mechanics just spray a bunch of oil up there and hope for the best, but that really doesn’t do any good.
So… I designed and make a tool which will allow you to inject grease into those bearings and make them turn like new. All you have to do is drop the struts, pull the 3/4-inch pins out of the bearings, then push my tool into the bearing. Then connect a grease gun and pump the bearing full of grease. Simple. The Service Manual says to remove and lubricate the nose strut trunnion bearings every 3 years so I think the same 3 years would apply to these main strut bearings..
